Solitary Birches: Hand Painted with Glass W05
Images of summer come to mind with these solitary birches, hand painted with glass and framed on wood. Painting with glass in a liquid form is a wonderful exciting technique. A sheet of fused glass is ground into a powder and a binder is added to turn the powder into liquid crushed glass. This technique affords the artist a whole new world of designing with glass. This piece demonstrates the ability to acquire depth with glass paint. The background sky was painted and then fired in the kiln. The second firing brings the birches to life, you can see the sky behind. Ready to hang in that special place, this art piece is reminiscent of our northern birches. It measures 8 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches, perfect for that small space.
